Parents and Mentors
Today more parents are choosing to home school their children. And mentors are searching for better ways to reach and teach youth. With the Mindful Messages Mentoring Program (MMMP) the central theme is HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention with a focus on Africentric culture, knowledge and wisdom and life sills. This concept of educating our youth is great for both Parent/Mentor and Adolescent/Teen(s) because many times, the topics covered is new information for both parties and or it's just a fresh reminder. It is also a great way to spend quality time together and reinforce family values.
Educators and Youth Counselors
The MMMP is great for teaching today's Hip Hop generation in the classroom or after school. It is fun, engaging, empowering and colorful. In the classroom the MMMP can be administered similarly to the Group Study method and can be used as the main curriculum or it can supplement an existing classroom curriculum. Even though parts of the curriculum have an Africentric focus, most of the topics and themes have a universal appeal such as Abstinence, Safe Sex, HIV/AIDS, STD's, Drugs, Relationships, Peer Pressure, Education and Family. Also remember, generally all kids love HIP HOP culture! More importantly, no one is immune to HIV/AIDS and therefore all youth are "at risk" and could benefit from connecting to their unique ancestry and culture to strengthen their character and life skills. Therefore, this material is very relevant and can expand any student's worldview. (Educators will find more information to assist them in conducting a successful program in the MMMP Teachers Guidebook.
Here are three ways to administer the MMMP.
